WESTLAND (WWJ) – A cash reward is being offered as the search continues for a pair of young men wanted for a carjacking at a Westland gas station back in May.

Westland police on Thursday released photos of the suspects in a carjacking at the BP station on Wayne near Warren around 1:15 a.m.

Officials say the victim was "conducting business" at the gas station and when he returned to his car he was approached by one of the suspects, who threatened him with a gun and demanded his belongings and car.

The victim cooperated and the two suspects left the scene with the victim's car.

As a westland police officer was responding to the call, he spotted the stolen car nearby and tried to pull it over, but the driver sped away onto I-96.

Westland police released video of the chase, which was terminated after the suspect shut off the car's lights and the officer lost sight a short time later in the area of I-96 and Evergreen.

The video shows the suspect and officer getting on and off I-96 multiple times.

The stolen car was found abandoned a short time later in the same area by the Detroit Police Department.

Authorities describe one suspect as a "heavier set Black male" in his late teens or early 20s. He was wearing all black and black pants with an Adidas logo.

The other suspect is described as a "slimmer Black male" in his  late teens or early 20s, wearing all black and an Adidas hooded sweatshirt with a white logo.

Officials are asking anyone who recognizes the suspects or knows something about the carjacking to call the Westland Police Department at 734-722-9600.

Crime Stoppers of Michigan is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the suspects involved.  Anonymous tips can be submitted at 1-800 SPEAK UP.
