ANN ARBOR (WWJ) -- Where does the legacy of Bo Schembechler stand at U of M?

WWJ’s Jason Scott asked that question to University of Michigan Board of Regent Jordan Acker in the wake of the several claims that Schembechler ignored allegations of sexual assault against former team doctor, Robert Anderson.

“We’re really focused, most importantly, on resolving these claims through confidential mediation,” Acker said. “And ultimately, just apologizing again for the awful harms that a true monster, Robert Anderson, did on our campus.”

Acker added that the board is not currently discussing the renaming of campus buildings, such as of U of M football building Schembechler Hall, saying, “It’s just not on the top of our radar right now.”

More than 100 former football players have signed a letter defending Schembechler’s reputation.

As of last week, four people -- including one of Schembechler's sons, Matt -- have said they told the famed coach they were sexually assaulted by Anderson during physical exams.

Meanwhile, another one of Schembechler’s sons, Glenn “Shemy” Schembechler, said in an interview yesterday with Charlie Langton that his father would have protected his players if he knew of any wrong-doing.

"Knowing my mom and dad the way that I did, they would never put their children into harm's way to the level Matt is saying they did," Glenn said. "Millie and Bo absolutely loved their children.”

Schembechler, who led the Michigan football team from 1969 to 1989, died in 2006.
