HOLLAND (WWJ) - A deer crash in West Michigan killed a woman and injured her husband after their vehicle struck the animal and then collided into a commercial building over the weekend.

The Holland Department of Public Safety said on Tuesday that 60-year-old Georgianne Covelli of Wyoming died of her injuries in the tragic incident that occurred on Saturday (Oct. 21) morning.

According to authorities, Covelli was sitting in the front passenger seat while her husband was driving their 2020 Toyota Camry west along I-196.

Police said the Camry hit a deer, which went through the windshield and struck the couple inside the car.

The Camry then left the roadway, crashed through a right-of-way fence and smashed into a commercial building at 80 W 64th St. Suite 200.

Covelli's husband, who was taken to the hospital, has since been released.

The crash is still under investigation with the Holland DPS.
