(WWJ) — After 25 consecutive playoff appearances — a stretch that included for Stanley Cup titles — the Detroit Red Wings’ time as a dominant team in the NHL came to a close in 2016.

From there, things got even worse, bottoming out as the worst team in the league in 2020. At seven years, the Wings now have the second-longest playoff drought in the league. The last seven-plus years have been a far cry from the glory days of Hockeytown, to say the least.

But this year the Red Wings look poised to snap that streak. On a new Daily J podcast, WWJ’s Brian Fisher takes a look at how General Manager Steve Yzerman has helped bring the franchise back to relevancy — again — and what it means to the city of Detroit.
