OSSINEKE (WWJ) -- An Alpena woman is facing auto theft and gun charges after a statewide search led to her arrest at a Downriver motel.

The investigation began at around 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24, when Michigan State Police got a call about a theft at a home in Alpena County's Ossineke, where the suspect had been renting a room.

The victim told troopers with the MSP Alpena Post that 25-year-old Olivia Elizabeth McKinnon had stolen a 9mm handgun from his home, and then fled in his 2014 Ram pickup truck.

After troopers viewed security video confirming that McKinnon had stolen the pickup, a statewide law enforcement broadcast was issued, police said.

Detectives used "advanced surveillance techniques" to track down the truck, which was found in the parking lot of a motel on Dix Highway in Lincoln Park.

In a motel room rented by McKinnon, troopers with a search warrant found the stolen gun, as well as "a quantity of prescription pills," MSP said.

McKinnon was arrested at the scene, taken to the local jail, later transferred to the Alpena County Jail.

She was arraigned in the 88th District Court on one count of Unauthorized Driving Away of a Motor Vehicle, one count of Larceny of Firearm, one count of Felon in Possession Firearm, and one count of Felony Firearm. Bond was set at $35,000 cash or surety bond, and McKinnon's next court appearance was scheduled for March 12.
