Dan Campbell was slamming chairs and walls during interview with Brian Daboll

The younger version of Dan Campbell makes the current one look tame -- and the current one has a taste for kneecaps.

Take it from Giants head coach Brian Daboll, who, as offensive coordinator for the Dolphins in 2011, hired Campbell to be the team's tight ends coach after a particularly memorable interview.

With the two coaches set to square off this Sunday when the Giants host the Lions, Daboll recalled that interview Wednesday in all its hilarious detail.

Campbell, who had just finished his first season in coaching as an intern for the Dolphins, was so jacked up about the job that he was slamming chairs and hitting walls and could barely breathe by the time the interview was over, Daboll told reporters.

"Entertaining interview," Daboll said.

And not only did Campbell land the job, he was in the team weight room at 5:30 the next morning power cleaning and squatting. You can't make it up.

Campbell would spend the next five seasons with the Dolphins, including a stint as interim head coach in 2015 during which time they went 5-7. He only overlapped with Daboll for one year, but said Wednesday, "I was always real impressed with him."

"He’s very smart, high energy, he’s got a real good personality about him. He can mesh with just about anybody and, man, he was fun to work with," said Campbell. "He really was … I’ve got a lot of respect for him. I think he’s a hell of a coach."

After Miami, Campbell spent another five years as assistant head coach and tight ends coach of the Saints under Sean Payton, which eventually led him to the head coaching job in Detroit last season.

He leads the Lions into MetLife stadium on Sunday coming off back-to-back wins for the first time in his tenure.
