The annual Bayou Classic will not be played in the Superdome this season, Southern’s athletic director Roman Banks said Friday during the university system’s board meeting.

“The Bayou Classic will not be in New Orleans this year and, possibly, looking at two years,” he told the board.

Banks said the yearly matchup between Southern and Grambling will still take place and that the school is looking at other potential venues to host the game.

One is Southern’s A.W. Mumford Stadium, as this upcoming matchup is scheduled to be a home game for the Jaguars. Another is LSU’s Tiger Stadium and the final option he listed was Independence Stadium in Shreveport.

Banks told the board those options would allow the two school to maximize potential capacity under social distancing measures, put in place to slow the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
