21-year-old booked in fatal Uptown shooting of UL student

Alce Billiot

New Orleans Police booked a 21-year-old in the killing of a University of Louisiana-Lafayette student earlier this month in Uptown New Orleans. Jail records show Alec Billiot faces one count of 2nd degree murder in the death of Lee Long Jr., and five counts of attempted second-degree murder.

Long died early in the morning of Friday January 10. New Orleans Police say they were notified by Tulane University Police of a man found shot inside a vehicle at the corner of Burthe and Hillary Streets in the Carrollton neighborhood. That location is about a block away from a strip of bars and restaurants on Maple Street popular with the university crowd.

The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate reports an eyewitness informed police that Billiot shot and killed Long, but arrest records do not provide a possible motive.
