With much of the investigation still underway, Louisiana State Troopers are reporting the death of 62-year-old Arlington Porter of Gibson.
Porter was behind the wheel of his Mercedes CL-350, Saturday afternoon, when it left the road on a curve near the junction of LA-182 and LA-20 in the community of Gibson.
According to the Troop C press release, for unknown reasons, Porter failed to negotiate a left curve and ran off of the roadway to the right.
His car struck a tree and caught fire.
Several passing motorists were able to remove him from the vehicle, but he succumbed to his injuries on scene.
It is not known if Porter was using his seat belt or was driving impaired.
This crash comes less than a day after another fatal accident near Leeville that took the life of a Mississippi man who drove his car into the path of Louisiana National Guard truck.
