Are New Orleans metro drivers among the best in America?

Chances are, that headline got a skeptical reaction from you.

It raised eyebrows among those we talked to at metro area gas stations, as well.

Our interviews with local motorists found very few would defend the quality of their fellow drivers.

Speeding, running red lights, constant lane-changing and lack of turn signal use were cited as among our poor driving habits.

But, a national survey says otherwise.

A research team from QuoteWizard.com by Lending Tree evaluated driver quality from the 75 largest cities in America.

It determined that New Orleans has the 8th best drivers in the nation.

Data analyzed 2019 data from millions of insurance quotes from drivers nationwide. Researchers used a composite ranking system to rank each city for their rate of incidents. Incidents include accidents, speeding tickets, DUIs, and other citations (running a red light, using a cellphone while driving, etc.). Cities considered the worst drivers had the highest rate of incidents among drivers.

Again, New Orleans area drivers are ranked among the best in the country!

However, our very unscientific survey found that maybe one in a hundred metro area motorists think highly of those they share the roads with. The responses were nearly unanimous. The lone dissenting opinion we found was from a gentleman who felt that New Orleans area drivers are courteous, concerned with their safety and the safety of others.
