Local bicycle enthusiasts want you to leave your car at home today.  They are urging people to peddle to their employer instead.

Today is the 8th Annual Greater New Orleans Bike to Work Day.

"We are encouraging everybody who may not have had an opportunity to try biking to work, today is the perfect day to do it," Entergy Vice President Corporate Social Responsibility Patty Riddlebarger said. "It's gonna be a great day to celebrate biking."

Groups of bicyclists were encouraged to ride into Downtown New Orleans together from a number of starting points around 7:15am.

  • Algiers - Algiers Ferry Landing
  • Bywater - Bywater Bakery (3624 Dauphine Street)
  • Broadmoor - Rosa Keller Library (4300 South Broad Street)
  • Gentilly - Daddy’s Donuts (2051 Caton Street)
  • 7th Ward - Dashing Bicycles (1234 North Broad Street)
  • Metairie - Royal Blend Coffee and Tea (204 Metairie Road)
  • Mid-City - Jeff Davis and Lafitte Greenway
  • Uptown - Hey! Cafe (4332 Magazine Street)

All the groups meet up across the street from City Hall.

"Ride together to Duncan Plaza for free breakfast food and coffee, to hear from local advocates about the growing bike culture in New Orleans, and meet your fellow community," a news release urged.
