Today is the peak of hurricane season – the day we statistically have the most tropical activity in the Atlantic. Emergency officials say that even though we’re now hitting the back-side of the season, we still need to be prepared.
Hurricane Barry might not have been a major storm, but it has required the Louisiana Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness to use some resources.
“Our folks stayed busy with the recovery piece as well, but we’ve always got an eye on the tropics,” said GOHSEP Director Jim Waskom.
Waskom says now is a good time to review your game plan, and go through your supply kit.
“If you’ve tapped in to those supplies, you know, it’s time to re-stock,” he said. “The season runs all the way to November, so we can’t let our guard down. We have to be aware.”
