An NOPD officer is recovering this morning after he was shot last night.
Cops responded to a call of a suspicious man with a gun inside the Shell gas station at Tulane Avenue and Jefferson Davis Parkway. The officer was patting down the suspect.
"The individual then retrieved his weapon and fired at the officer, striking the officer in the right leg," Police Chief Shaun Ferguson told reporters.
The Chief says the officer was able to maintain his professional composure and hold the suspect down until help arrived. He was rushed to University Medical Center a few blocks away.
"He is currently in stable condition and doing fine, he's doing fine," Ferguson said.
The suspect was arrested on the scene.
