New Orleans Police say a man attempted to grab a man's cell phone and struck the victim on Magazine Street in the Garden District.
"The subject attempted to steal Victim #1’s cell phone while the victim was using it, but the victim held on to it. The subject punched the victim in the face, then fled the scene," according to the Major Offense Report.
A cop responding to the crime spotted the suspect, in the act of allegedly committing another crime.
"The responding officer found the subject in the 2000 block of Constance Street and observed him attempting to take a second victim's cell phone."
When the policeman attempted to make the arrest, however, the suspect allegedly escalated his mini crime spree.
"The officer attempted to apprehend the subject, during which time the subject attempted to take the officer’s firearm. Both fell to ground and the subject the fled."
Police say 18-year-old Robert Hughes was later apprehended at Jackson Avenue and Constance Street.
The robbery charges prompted a $7,000 bond. The attempted to disarm an officer charge added an additional $30,000 to his bond amount.
It all started in the 1900 block of Magazine St.
