Many St. Tammany residents are anxious to have the Highway 11 Bridge in Slidell reopened. The $28.3 million construction work on the bridge started back in August of 2018, and was supposed to reopen to traffic last month.
St. Tammany Parish president Mike Cooper says people in Slidell will have to be patient just a little longer.
“Due to COVID-19 it was expected to open this summer,” said Cooper. “However, because of COVID-19 and other unforeseen circumstances the project is now foreseen to be completed in the fall of 2020.”
The bridge is closed for repairs to the road deck, guardrails, and mechanical work to the drawbridge.
