Following the shooting death of a nurse on Bourbon street over the weekend, questions are being raised once again about guns in the French Quarter. It seems no number of police officers could stop a struggle over a gun from sending bullets into the street.
However, City Councilwoman Kristin Gisleson Palmer of District C, wants to know about the private security that operates in a the French Quarter.
''We have a lot of establishments in the French Quarter utilizing security services," said Palmer, "How are they being trained and are they effective?"
Old issues are being discussed again, like metal detectors and security checkpoints, but Palmer says it's too big of an area.
''Bourbon Street is under one square mile and yet we have over 360 alcoholic beverage outlets just within that area,'' said Palmer.
