(AP) — Eviction hearings in New Orleans have been rescheduled for next month.

A decision made days after they were halted due to a new federal moratorium amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Orleans Parish Civil District Courts spokesperson Walt Pierce made the announcement on the hearings Wednesday.

Pierce says tenants will be able to submit evidence to show if they are eligible to avoid eviction under the federal guideline when the hearings begin on Oct. 5.

The federal directive halts evictions for eligible persons until the end of this year.
