Don't look for live entertainment or meetings to come back to the Smoothie King Center, Superdome or other venues soon. Capacity limits and travel concerns are keeping performers from hitting the road and convention planners from planning.
Doug Thornton with the Superdome and arena management team says artists just aren't touring."The outlook remains very bleak for the remainder of this calendar year."He says they are getting more notices of shows that are not happening than anything else."In terms of live music and concerts, most events have been rescheduled or canceled." He told the Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District Board. "We are seeing very few events take place on a national basis."And it is not just live performances."Same with conventions, conferences and meetings."Thornton says those are also mostly on hold too."People just aren't traveling. Show organizers are reluctant to put plans together."Thornton says planning anything is extremely difficult."They don't know if people will be able to attend, so it is creating a lot of uncertainty."While some events are still officially on the calendar for now, Thornton expects that to change."The ones that are still on the books for October through the end of the year are likely to be rescheduled."
