Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards' proclamation for a modified Phase 2 reopening amid the coronavirus officially expires this coming Friday.
The governor today says he will issue a new order shortly.
"We will be making a decision soon and announcing it," Edwards told Talk 107.3fm in Baton Rouge. "Obviously that is going to happen before Friday when the current proclamation expires."
The current order includes the closure of all bars and adds a mandate that people wear face masks in public.
"We've got to see an extension of the proclamation," the governor promised. "Exactly what that extension is going to be, I don't know yet."
Edwards expressed apprehension about lifting current restrictions because of the recent large increases in people getting out and getting together in schools.
"One of the things that we are greatly concerned about is that within the last couple of weeks; we brought back on line k-12 education, higher education."
The governor stressed that with the increase in interaction that creates, it wouldn't be in the public interest to lift other restrictions that could have more people close to each other spreading COVID.
