Two carjackings involving senior citizen victims have taken place in the last week. Sunday a 70-year-old cab driver was carjacked on Governor Nichols Street in Treme when a suspect initially stole his phone. The suspect tried to ransom back the phone to the cab driver. When the cab driver refused to cooperate, the suspect attacked him and stole his cab.
Friday night, another 70-year-old man was carjacked in Gentilly. Just after midnight the victim was flagged down by a man needing a ride. The man drew a gun on the driver and ordered him out of his car. The suspect then sped off down Pauline Drive.
It is not known if two incidents are connected. Anyone with any information about these crimes is urged to contact NOPD or Crimestoppers.
