Two people were killed in a fiery crash that happened on I-12 just after noon today.
The crash involved two 18-wheelers and an SUV, about ten miles west of Hammond.
Thick black smoke could be seen billowing out from at least one vehicle on fire
I-12 eastbound re-opened about 4 p.m. The westbound interstate will likely be closed throughout the night, according to a spokeswoman at Louisiana State Police Troop A.
The accident scene was ablaze for at least four hours after the crash.
"The SUV and one 18-wheeler were eastbound. One 18-wheeler hit the SUV, crossed the center median and hit the westbound wheeler head-on," said Trooper Sgt. Slaughter.
The drivers of both big-rigs died in the crash.
There was no word on the condition of the SUV's driver. None of those involved in the crash have been identified at this time.
