Three months ago, Deputy Superintendent for Compliance Daniel Murphy left New Orleans with comrade Eric Melancon to join former Superintendent Michael Harrison in Baltimore. The aim was to bring reforms to the beleaguered department come in line with a federal consent decree. Last Wednesday Deputy Commissioner Daniel Murphy and his wife were robbed at gun point.
Murphy and his wife were walking through the Upper Fells Point neighborhood when SUV with four men inside pulled up. Two jumped out, flashed guns and robbed the couple of cell phones, a wallet, cash and a purse. The men took off in the SUV.
On Friday two teens were arrested and charged as adults with armed robbery. Baltimore Police are still looking for the two other men seen inside the SUV.
Baltimore Police Commissioner, and former NOPD Superintendent, Michael Harrison told our CBS affiliate the robbery was very brazen, very cowardice: “For far too long, the narrative is usually, ‘When can police stop this?'” Harrison said. “Well, it is ‘When can we change their minds about making bad decisions’? And, then, we will stop those who continue to choose badly."
