Gov. Edwards: Blue Roof available for Hurricane Laura damaged homes

Operation “Blue Roof” is underway. This is the program to get ‘blue tarps’ secured to homes with minimal roof damage.

“The Blue Roofs will go up starting this Saturday,” Governor Edwards said during his daily update press conference. “This is the first step for many that will make their homes safe, habitable, and secure after the storm, which will allow more individuals to stay in their homes and won’t need to shelter.”

Residents in Hurricane Laura damaged parishes who have storm damaged roofs can request a ‘Blue Roof” by calling 888-766-3258.

Starting tomorrow, FEMA will open a drive-thru, document-scanning site in Lake Charles. Governor Edwards says this will allow people seeking federal assistance to drive up and have their documents scanned into their case file and returned directly to them.

The drive-thru document site will be set up at Calcasieu Parish School Board at 3310 Broad Street in Lake Charles Louisiana.

“There are no appointments necessary. It will operate from 7am to 7pm,” said Governor Edwards.

Edwards says about 92,000 individuals have registered and FEMA has paid out about 25-million-dollars in disaster relief money.
