Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards has called for three days of fasting during lunch and prayer, today through Wednesday.
"Praying for the people of Louisiana, praying for those who are sick, praying for those who care for those who are sick, and certainly, praying for the families of those who have passed on," the governor said.
Edwards says he got the idea for three days of fasting and prayer during a conference call with faith leaders about the coronavirus pandemic.
"I know it's a little bit unusual," he said, "but I think it's something that's important."
Edwards says he believes in the power of prayer and in the power of working together and being good neighbors to overcome COVID-19.
"This will be the spiritual diet and exercise, as a Catholic Christian believes very important, anyway, so we'll be doing lunch fasting," said Edwards. "And certainly, praying as well."
