Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards today made official his extension of the coronavirus emergency through April 30. The original proclamation was to expire April 13.
That means schools, bars, casinos, and many other businesses will remain closed. Restaurants will only be allowed to operate take-out, delivery, or drive-through dining. Gatherings of ten or more people are prohibited.
The governor says the social distancing efforts must continue to slow the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus. He said hospitals are being overwhelmed with patients, with hospitals in the New Orleans region expected to exceed capacity as early as next week.
