Grand Isle Mayor David Camardelle today called for a voluntary evacuation of Louisiana's only permanently inhabited barrier island.

"Due to the possibility of Tropical Storm-Invest 92L passing close to Grand Isle and causing flooding because of high tide," the mayor issued the order today at 3:00 p.m.

The only way to and from the island is Louisiana Highway 1, which can go under water between Grand Isle and Golden Meadow during tropical weather.
