Low-lying parts of Jefferson parish are taking the first blows from Tropical Storm Cristobal.

"Grand Isle is taking on water, " said Jefferson Parish Emergency Management Director Joe Valiente. "It's not excessive."

The flooding includes the only road leading in and out of the island.

"Highay 1 is underwater from the island to south of Port Fourchon," said Valiente. Valiente said it's not a problem for their high-water vehicles, but he warns residents against trying to drive there right now.

Otherwise, Valiente says the parish is in good shape as it waits out the storm.

"We have 100 percent on the pumps. They're all manned and we have our standby crews. The electric grid is good, our roadways and bridges; no complaints, no standing water, so righ tnow, Jefferson Parish is a real good place."
