Hunters that need to clear their freezers of last year’s bounty are being urged to donate that meat to those that may be less fortunate. Hunters for the Hungry executive director Julie Grunewald says Clean Out Your Freezer Day is this Sunday, 9/15, with various donation points around Louisiana.
“From there, our food banks will pick it up and bring it to their facilities where they’ll distribute it to over 100 agencies that they service,” said Grunewald.
Grunewald says they are hoping to double the already massive amounts of donations received last year.
“Acadiana area was able to collect 10,000 pounds of protein, which was fantastic. Baton Rouge last year did around 4,000 pounds,” said Grunewald.
Grunewald says being in sportsman’s paradise, there are many different types of meat they see donated.
“People always have kind of ample amounts of deer or fish or any type of protein, so we’re excited to be able to give them an avenue and opportunity to donate to those less fortunate,” said Grunewald.
