Paris protests raise questions about NFL's plans for Saints-Steelers game

Saints radio announcer says there are a lot of "I don't knows" surrounding contingency plans should riots flair up

Gilets Jaunes Join French School Protestors For Weekend Of Action
PARIS, FRANCE - OCTOBER 17: A protester shoots fireworks at police officers during demonstrations on October 17, 2026 in Paris, France. The involvement of the Gilets Jaunes (Yellow Vests) with the ongoing French school blockades expands the scope of these demonstrations by linking localised student grievances to broader economic policies. Student unions originally initiated the movement to protest underfunding, deteriorating infrastructure, and acute teacher shortages across French high schools and universities. By joining the protests, the Gilets Jaunes introduce their established platform against austerity cuts, rising living costs, and surging fuel prices into the youth-led action.

The New Orleans Saints are in Paris ahead of Sunday's international game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Meanwhile, the City of Lights is in the headlines because of ongoing protests and riots stemming from students' discontent over living wages and school conditions.

However, a member of the Saints' party says he's not yet run into any trouble.

Voice of the Saints Mike Hoss said from what he's seen, most of the unrest is taking place in northern Paris and only on certain days.

"Everybody went back to work on Monday and was kind of like, let's talk about the protests and all the violence and everything that happened over the weekend," Hoss said. "It's like they're not happening as we speak, as I've seen."

Hoss told WWL's Tommy Tucker that French news outlets are giving constant coverage to the protests, but he noted that he did not encountered any violence during his walk through the city this morning.

"It's 24-7, and it's a big deal," Hoss said. "I can't say that it's not a significant deal. It is. The question will be: what happens really when more protests are being set up and arranged?"

Accordng to Hoss, there are a lot of "I don't know"s when it comes to that question.

"I think we're not really prepared for the size and the magnitude of the protests last weekend as well as the violence that came along with it," Hoss said. "It had been peaceful up to that point. We're in week four of this."
