The Second District Congressional Representative, Cedric Richmond, is set to become a major player on the national stage.
Being named a campaign co-chairman for Joe Biden for President, Richmond elevated his status beyond just the state of Louisiana.
But it was a casual note to the candidate after the dismal Super Tuesday performance that changed candidate Joe Biden and re-invigorated the campaign itself.
“If you really believe you’re fighting for the soul of the country, then go act like it,” the note said, according to the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate.
Since then, Biden defined his approach to the campaign and became the front runner, and Richmond has been the apple of Biden’s eye.
Yesterday, Biden named Richmond as one of five chairs of his presidential transition team.
“He’s going to be a powerful person, come January, if Biden wins. It’s that simple,” James Carville told the paper. “In Washington, basically, unless you’re a committee chairman, the perception of influence is your access to the president,” Carville said. “That’s the way power flows. It’s the most valuable coin there is. It just confers enormous prestige. He’ll have that. He’ll be a big deal.”
Richmond tells the TP/NOA he knows this is no honorary position:
“It’s day to day for me,” he said. “It’s everything you would expect a person on a campaign level to do — senior level. Anything from previewing ads to debate prep to general nightly strategy calls and other stuff. Talking to members of Congress, recruiting supporters. It’s overwhelming. It’s a lot.”
The paper reports if Biden win, Richmond would likely be pushing for a high-level position in a Biden Administration. But Richmond has said he would like to stay in Congress.
