Starting Friday Louisiana will allow restaurants to offer outside dining at restaurants for the first time since the coronavirus stay home order began.
Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng welcomed the news.
"Restaurants are allowed to put their tables outside without service," she said at a news conference. "You can pick up to go, and then enjoy eating - minding the social distance requirements - you can eat outside with your families and enjoy the outside."
Restaurant dining rooms remain closed.
Sheng said that per the governor's order stores in malls will also be allowed to deliver goods to customers curbside starting Friday.
"That's good news for us," Sheng said of the changes for restaurants and stores inside malls.
The city of New Orleans, however, is not supporting the changes by the governor.
"Restaurants will not be allowed to host curbside seating and stores will not be allowed to open curbside delivery," Mayor LaToya Cantrell posted.
The Governor’s announcement will not result in any changes to the existing #StayHome mandate in Orleans Parish. Restaurants will not be allowed to host curbside seating and stores will not be allowed to open curbside delivery. Yesterday, I issued the following statement ⬇️ pic.twitter.com/IABw2BdvlO
