The man accused of killing two St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff deputies eight years ago has been found guilty on both counts of first degree murder.
Murder suspect Kyle Joekel faces the death penalty with his conviction.
Jurors listened to descriptions of how he killed deputies Jeremy Triche and Brandon Neilsen and other testimony over six days.
Joekel's defense attorneys say another man fired the shots - Brian Smith - who is being held in a mental hospital unable to stand trial.
Prosecutors argued that Joekel stood over deputy Triche with an AK-47 and shot him dead at close range.
Police had said Joekel and Smith were members of Sovereign Citizens, a group with member who believe that laws do not apply to them.
The jury returned the verdict on Joekel in just 30-minutes.
Speaking after the verdict Sheriff Mike Tregre said he would reserve comments until after victim impact statements are over.
Speaking with WWL-TV, Wendy Nielsen, the mother of Deputy Brandon Nielsen, stated: "This won't bring our son back, but it sure does bring justice for what we've been going through. There's just no winners here."
Testimony in the victim impacts will be today at the courthouse in Edgard.
