The list of companies warning the Louisiana Workforce Commission of impending layoffs grew by two over the last couple of days.
According to the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate Hotel Monteleone and HMS Host, the company that operates the concessions at Louis Armstrong International Airport say they are moving toward layoffs.
It's another sign of just how hard the hospitality industry in the region has been hit.
HMS Host reported to the Commission their intention to let go of upwards of 300 employees on October 16. Those workers had been listed as temporarily furloughed.
The scope of the layoffs amount to more than half of the 500 employees who run concessions like Shake Shack, Mondo, Panda Express, Smoothie King, Munch Factory, Emeril's Table among others.
The airport had been seeing slight improvements in traffic and numbers, but suffered due to a rebound in coronavirus cases.
This also comes at a time when Southwest Airlines confirmed they would be slashing flights at the airport.
Meanwhile, at the Monteleone, the same effect is causing the permanent loss of nearly 200 workers on leave.
The layoffs run the gamit of positions at the hotel, from bellmen to cooks all the way up to personal attendants and accountants.
