The LSU Tigers haven’t been ranked in the Top 25 since losing two in a row in Orlando, but that should change this week. The Bayou Bengals handed South Carolina its first SEC loss of the season with a commanding 89-67 over the Gamecocks.
LSU had six players reach double figures, led by a pair of freshmen, Naz Reid had 15 points and so did, Emmit Williams who came off the bench to score 15 points and the freshman from Florida finished with 13 rebounds.
Tremont Waters and Kavell Bigby-Williams each had 12 points. Waters had several nifty passes, while Bigby-Williams had several rim rattling dunks. Javonte Smart also had 12 points.
The Tigers did a lot of things well in this convincing victory. They out rebounded South Carolina 49-29 which led to the Tigers outscoring the Gamecocks 20-12 in 2nd chance points. LSU had 11 steals and forced 16 turnovers. The Tigers also had 12 assists, while Carolina had seven assists.
LSU didn’t shoot the 3-point ball well, as they were just 3-for-19 from 3-point territory. But the Tigers had 10 dunks and were an outstanding 32-of 35 from the free throw line.
The victory improves LSU’s record to 14-3 overall, 4-0 in the SEC. Tennessee is the only other team in the league with an undefeated conference record. The Tigers host Missouri and Georgia this week, both teams have just one win in conference play.
