The New Orleans Fire Department says a house fire in New Orleans East left one man dead.
"NOFD was dispatched on a report of a house fire at 4401 Longfellow Drive," according to a news release.
The fire was reported just after noon Tuesday. When crews arrived on they found much of the home fully engulfed in flames. Fire crews began immediate combat to extinguish the fire while search and rescue efforts enter the home.
"Firefighters located a 61 year old male near the center of the home and carried him outside." They began CPR, and EMS took the man to the hospital. Doctors pronounced him dead a short time later.
In all 16 fire units responded to the blaze. New Orleans Fire called this a two-alarm fire.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is underway and continuing.
