Derry Harper, who has served the last 18 months as the Inspector General for the City of New Orleans, has submitted his resignation effective October 31.
Harper's resignation comes as the Ethics Review Board, who holds authority to dismiss the IG, planned to meet to discuss his future in the department.
The future of Harper's term as IG began to come under scrutiny, when it was learned his department spent more money than previously, but had less investigations underway.
According to the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate Harper's performance was publicly criticised in an oversight panel. This came after his department produced just two reviews during his first year as IG.
Those reports disclosed that city employees had received free Jazz Fest tickets. The other found false handicap parking tags had been produced by members of the Sewerage and Water Board.
Ethics Review Board Chair Person Michael Cowan told the paper "we remain concerned about productivity."
In his resignation letter Harper said he was leaving public service after 41-years as an attorney and public servant to spend more time with his family.
