District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro's office on Thursday secured a murder indictment against a New Orleans man accused of fatally shooting a man in Algiers in April and carjacking a second victim nearly a week later in Hollygrove.
40-year-old Eugene Weather was charged with the second-degree murder of Jonathon Simmons, obstruction of justice in a homicide investigation, carjacking and being a felon in possession of a firearm in the four-count indictment handed up by an Orleans Parish grand jury.
Weather is also known by a host of aliases....Eugene Weathers, Keymichael Wix, Eugene Wix, Terrance Bone and the nickname "Keedy."
Simmons, 35, was found shot to death in the 1000 block of Wagner Street around 8:40 a.m. on April 1, 2019. Weather faces a mandatory life prison sentence if convicted of the murder charge.
Six days after Simmons' death, New Orleans police apprehended Weather in the 3200 block of South Carrollton Avenue, driving a vehicle that had been reported stolen from a man who agreed to give Weather a ride near the intersection of South Carrollton and Earhart Boulevard.
Criminal District Judge Camille Buras left unchanged Weather's $400,000 bond amount for the murder and carjacking allegations. Bond for the remaining charges was left to be set by the section judge to whom the case is randomly allotted.
Assistant District Attorney Abigail MacDonald presented the case to the grand jury.
