New Orleans named a most friendly city for adventurous eaters

The international dining scene in New Orleans has placed the city on another Top 10 list.

This one is based on the number of restaurants, per capita, that cover cuisines from all corners of the globe, from Africa to Vietnam.

New Orleans comes in third on a list of '10 Best Cities For Adventurous Eating.'

Brian Carberry, managing editor of Apartment Guide, says they looked at the ratio of international dining options per resident.

"We did include Cajun, which is probably pretty normal in New Orleans, but in a lot of cities, it isn't."

Carberry, admits the number of Cajun and Creole restaurants helped tip the scales. But, he was somewhat surprised at the number of other international eateries.

"I don't think of New Orleans, personally, as having a large Vietnamese population. I could be totally wrong, but it's not the first thing that jumps into my mind."

But, Apartment Guide found Vietnamese, Caribbean and Latin American restaurants all have a strong presence in New Orleans, and very favorably so.

The bulk of the country's most adventurous eaters, surprisingly, are found south of the Mason-Dixon Line.

"As you move further south, we did see a lot of cities...like we had Lafayette, New Orleans and Baton Rouge...all in Louisiana and all due to Cajun and Creole restaurants."

Those local cuisine are credited with making Lafayette #4 on the list and Baton Rouge, #9.

But, aside from things like boudin on a biscuit...Carberry says the international dining scene here in Louisiana, and particularly in New Orleans, goes way beyond gumbo and etouffee.

Carberry says the gumbo of culinary influences on dining in New Orleans make the city a Mecca for the gastronomically inclined, with more iconic eateries than you can shake a beignet at. https://www.apartmentguide.com/blog/best-cities-for-adventurous-eaters/
