The head of the New Orleans Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness in New Orleans says the carnival season should be about having fun, and also being courteous.
Colin Arnold says Mayor LaToya Cantrell's administration is enforcing the "no overnight" rule for ladders, tents and other stuff people like to set up ahead of time on the parade route.
"I think what we saw last night and what we will see again today, is that you don't leave anything on the sidewalks and neutral grounds overnight," Arnold said.
"A lot of this is about being courteous to fellow parade goers when you are setting up and trying to view parades," said Arnold.
Arnold says the ladders, tents and other items confiscated Tuesday are gone, thrown away.
That has some veteran fans of Mardi Gras upset, because they claim they've been setting up early like that for years. The city says three hours before a parade is scheduled to begin is okay, but overnight is not.
