New Orleans Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Henderson Lewis today announced September 14 as a possible date for students to return to campus, NOLA.com reports.

Public school students began the 2020-2021 school year with distance learning, and a return date expected sometime after Labor Day.

Dr. Lewis said younger students -- those in grades Pre-K through grade four -- would return first. Older students likely won't return to classrooms until mid-October.

The return schedule is contingent upon continued success in decreasing rates of coronavirus infections.
