NOPD is investigating a traffic fatality that occurred early Sunday on I-10 West near the Canal Street Exit.
Police say a young woman was killed in the accident. One person is in custody in connection to the fatality.
The crash occurred about 3:40 a.m.
A 25-year-old woman involved in the accident died on the scene. Her body was taken to a local hospital.
Authorities say the accident involved three vehicles.
Officers have learned that all three cars were driving in the center lane of I-10 W when vehicle #1 crashed into the rear of vehicle #2 , causing vehicle #2 to crash into vehicle #3.
Two people were inside of vehicle #2. The 25-year-old victim was a passenger in that vehicle. The driver was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
There was one person in vehicle #3. That person has minor injuries.
The person in vehicle #1, who is now in police custody, complained of no injuries.
