NOPD officer arrested after road rage incident, says report

NOPD

A New Orleans Police sergeant faces an aggravated assault charge. Investigators say he pointed a gun at a woman in a road rage incident, according to The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate.

Jail records show 48-year-old Robert Blanchard was booked early this morning on one count of aggravated assault with a firearm. According to the Advocate, court records say a woman flagged down officers to report the incident near North Broad and Lafitte yesterday.

The woman said Blanchard's vehicle pulled up behind hers, and she said that's when he aimed his weapon at her through his windshield.

Police say the woman said she followed the SUV after the incident to get a picture of the license plate before reporting to police.

Police pulled over Blanchard a few blocks away. Inside they found his police department-issued handgun. They say crime cameras in the area did not record the incident.
