Late word out of Mayor LaToya Cantrell's office Thursday again signalled the much delayed demolition of the Hard Rock Hotel structure, whether by wrecking ball, dismantling, or explosion was not happening.
The Structure will not be imploded in March, as New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell promised, but is now set for some time in April--six months after the structure partially collapsed, entombing the bodies of two workers inside.
The stall is because a deal on imploding the structure not been completed with the developers of the property and demolition firm D.H. Griffin.
The Mayor is quoted in the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate as saying: "The contract has yet to be signed, although we expect it... We’re closer than we’ve ever been."
Cantrell puts the cause of the delay on the state of Louisiana having not yet signed off on a grant of immunity to the demolition contractor, protecting them from legal action should the implosion damage nearby structures.
Once the deal is in place, Cantell says will hold a public briefing on the implosion plan.
