New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell will have to appoint a new police chief, with Michael Harrison departing for Baltimore. She may have her work cut out for her.

Finding someone to lead the city's main crime fighting agency is a major appointment for the mayor. New Orleans Metropolitan Crime Commission President Rafael Goyeneche says the mayor at least has a good template for what qualities a chief should have.

"This mayor is going to hope to be able to find someone that approaches what Chief Harrison did," said Goyeneche. "Whoever is appointed chief, you know, the standard, the boxes you want to check off, are the same boxes that Mike Harrison checked off."

Goyeneche says those qualities include "strong ties to the community, the ability to lead, and be a change agent, and be loyal to the administration."
