The man killed in a shootout with cops in downtown New Orleans was a member of a Houston gang, according to multiple reports.
WWL-TV and The New Orleans Advocate report that the man shot and killed Sunday was 32-year-old Reginald Romero Bursey, considered "armed and dangerous" by Texas authorities. He was also identified as a member of the Houston-area 59 Piru Street gang.
Bursey was wanted in connection with a Texas robbery -- two victims were tied up and robbed. Police say Bursey stole the car of one of the victims and abandoned it at a motel in Houston.
New Orleans Police, meanwhile, have released an update on the conditions of the five people injured in the shootout. A 34-year-old man hit in the arm and abdomen underwent surgery and remains in critical condition. A 17-year-old girl was hit in the leg and had to have surgery.
A 32-year old man injured in his hip, a 37-year-old man shot in the shoulder, and a 33-year-old man shot in the elbow all have been released from the hospital.
Investigators have not determined if any of the bystanders were hit by officers' gunfire.
