Several N.O. restaurants and hotels plan to lay off 1,500 workers

Several iconic restaurants and hotels in New Orleans plan to lay off about 1,500 workers in the coming months.

The restaurants notified the Louisiana Workforce Commission through the state’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notifications, or WARN notices.


Companies are obligated by state law to issue those notices when they plan to furlough or lay off workers who won’t be rehired for at least six months.

 Here is the breakdown:

  • Commander’s Palace – 240 workers
  • Arnaud’s – 150
  • The Hilton Riverside – 666 workers
  • The Hyatt Regency – 30 workers
  • The Roosevelt – 124 workers
  • The Wyndham on St. Charles – 25 workers

As The Times Picayune | New Orleans Advocate reports, The American Queen Steamboat Co. also announced it will permanently lay off about 250 workers. The metro New Orleans lost 74,000 jobs over the past 12 months according to nola.com
