Beer to flow in Tiger Stadium?

The Southeastern Conference will no longer be dry.

University presidents and chancellors of SEC schools Friday voted to lift the conference-wide prohibition on stadium-wide alcohol sales. This means individual schools can decide whether or not to allow the sales. LSU has long pushed for the change in policy, but has not announced yet how it will react to the changes. LSU in recent years has expanded areas where alcohol sales are permitted, but the vote today would allow sales in the general concessions area.

There will still be some rules at the league-wide level, such as:
  • Only beer and wine sales will be allowed
  • Sales ends at the ends of the third quarter for football and women's basketball games
  • Sales end at the 12-minute mark in men's basketball games
  • Sales end at the top of the seventh inning in baseball games
  • Sales end at the top of the fifth for softball
  • For all other sports, sales will end when 75 percent of the contest is completed
  • Beverages must be dispensed in cups (no cans or bottles) and limits will have to be established on how many drinks a customer can buy at one time
