Police this morning confirm the arrest of a teenager suspected of murdering a man on Bourbon Street yesterday.
"The NOPD has arrested Aumir J. Handshaw (black male, DOB: 10-23-2008) in the investigation of a homicide that occurred on August 31, 2026, in the 400 block of Bourbon Street," New Orleans Police released.
Responding officers caught Handshaw minutes after the shooting.
"Officers detained a male subject attempting to flee the scene. The subject, later identified as Handshaw, was questioned and later arrested on one count of second-degree murder."
The murder occurred just before 1:30am on Monday morning.
"NOPD officers responded to a call of shots fired at the location. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male gunshot wound victim. The victim was transported via EMS to a local hospital, where he was later declared deceased."
