It's the first day of summer, but it feels like it's been summer forever! And according to the state climatologist, summer 2019 has more of that in store.
"So far this June, most days have had temperatures above normal in south Louisiana," said climatologist Barry Keim. "Looking out longer term, the Climate Prediction Center's predicting temperatures to run above normal for the entirety of this summer. The averages are going to be above normal, making our already-hot summers even worse."
Keim says we at least should get our normal scattered summer afternoon showers to cool off a few lucky areas.
"Precipitation, they expect to be normal, which perhaps is a good thing," said Keim. "It's very typical for us to get periodic rains, in fact, almost every second or third day, you can expect those afternoon thundershowers to pop up."
