Sunday morning murder in Algiers

A man is dead after a shooting on the Westbank.

New Orleans Police Public Information Officer Paris Holmes said in an email, "At around 3:01 a.m, NOPD Fourth District officers responded to a call of aggravated battery by shooting at General DeGaulle and Westbend."


Cops found one adult male victim, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

EMS took him to the hospital were he died.

The investigation continues.

News release:

The NOPD is investigating a homicide that occurred July 5, 2020 (today) in the Fourth District. 

At around 3:00 a.m., NOPD Fourth District officers responded to a traffic accident on General De Gaulle Drive near Westbend Parkway.  Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim, a 35 year old man, suffering from a gunshot wound(s).  EMS transported him to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.   Investigators believe the victim was shot in his car at an another location before he crashed on General De Gaulle. 

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible in this incident, as well as a motive.

The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office will determine the official cause of death and release the victim's name, upon completion of an autopsy and notification of family.
